4/5/6

.

4/5/6 are currently learning about Antarctica, the

antarctic environment, and effects of climate change.

The school

The whole school have been a part of a number of healthy environment initiatives, including:

  • We have a worm farm and compost area located within the school grounds, maintained and sustained by children of the school.
  • We also have a vege patch, or garden on the school grounds. The children are keen to participate inĀ  learning activities involving the garden.
  • A visit to Fairfield City Farm. Children in years K-3 learnt about the farm environment, including plant and animal life cycles; and how plants, people and animals provide for each other in the food chain. Children in years 3-6 learnt about growth and change, including the impact of a changing environment on life cycles, recent and historical changes to the environment, and the impact of changing technology on the farm and environment.
  • We are fortunate enough to have had an Aboriginal elder come to visit us. She spoke about the Aboriginal connection with the land, and how the original Aboriginal inhabitants of the Como area lived in harmony with the land.
  • Como are also very lucky to have Aunty Anne (the Aboriginal elder that came to visit us) come back to do some Aboriginal art lessons.
